About PiraeusFerries

PiraeusFerries is a practical guide for people taking a ferry from Piraeus, the main port of Athens, to the Cyclades, Crete and the Saronic islands. It has a page for each main route, plus guides on the questions travellers ask before they sail: which gate, how early to arrive, what to do about tickets, wind and strikes.

Who runs it

PiraeusFerries is run by Dave Briggs, a British travel writer who has lived in Greece since 2015. He also runs Greek Ferry Travel, a guide to ferry routes across Greece, Rafina Ferries for sailings from the port of Rafina, and writes at Dave's Travel Pages.

How the facts are kept current

Sailings, ships, journey times and fares on the route pages are refreshed every day, and each page shows the date it was last checked. The guides carry their own last-checked date. Gates, schedules, prices and operator rules change, so confirm anything important on your ticket and with the operator.

Which Athens port

Piraeus is the biggest of the three Athens ports. If you are weighing it against the others, the guide to Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio explains the choice, and Rafina Ferries covers the Rafina side in detail.
