Luggage storage at Piraeus port
Short answer: Storage is available near the port, but mostly from private operators and lockers, not from a large official left-luggage hall. Lockers and staffed services are usually a short walk from your gate. Expect roughly €4–7 per day for a small locker and €8–12 for a large one; staffed storage costs more. Opening hours and distance from your gate matter more than the headline price, because a cheap locker on the wrong side of a 2.5–3 km port is not cheap.

Storing bags is what turns a long layover into a usable half-day in Piraeus or Athens. It is also the difference between a relaxed transfer and dragging a suitcase through the metro at 35 °C.
Storage operators, prices and hours change. Confirm the location, closing time and size limits before you hand over your bag.
What is available
- Port authority lockers, if available, at the Heation passenger terminal. Ask at the terminal information desk for current access and hours.
- Self-service lockers in shops and arcades near Piraeus metro station and the central gate area (notably around E7–E10). Sizes vary; large suitcases may not fit.
- Staffed luggage storage with a counter, receipt and sometimes delivery to hotels or the airport. One staffed option is In Town Check In at Gate E3 (Agios Dionysios terminal). Confirm its hours, which may be shorter at weekends. Better for odd-sized items, bikes and long durations.
- Hotel bag storage if you are checking in later or checking out early. Usually free for guests, but not for non-guests.
- Airport storage if you are heading straight back to ATH; not useful for a Piraeus day trip.
Most services are private businesses, not PPA facilities. Read the terms: closing time, same-location pickup, liability limit and what happens if you miss the pickup window.
Typical prices
| Option | Rough price | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Small locker | €4–7/day | Backpack or cabin bag |
| Large locker | €8–12/day | 23 kg suitcase plus a small bag |
| Staffed storage | €5–12/bag/day | Oversized items, bikes, long duration |
| Delivery/transfer service | Per rate card | Bags sent to hotel or airport |
Prices are indicative and vary by operator, season and duration. Some services charge per item, others per locker. Ask whether the price is per calendar day or per 24 hours, because that matters for an evening drop-off.
How to choose a location
- Near your gate cluster. Piraeus runs from E1 to E12 over roughly 2.5–3 km. Storing near the metro (around E6) is convenient for central Athens. Choose the end of the port nearest your gate: the Saronic and central Cyclades gates are at different ends of the port.
- Near the metro if you plan to go into Athens. The station is the natural hub.
- Near the cruise terminals if you are a cruise passenger with a few hours ashore; check walking distance and whether the service opens early enough.
- Near your hotel if you are returning to sleep in Piraeus; hotel storage is often simplest.
- Check the closing time. Many shops close in the evening. A locker that closes at 20:00 is useless if your ferry leaves at 23:00.
Security and practical rules
- Keep passports, tickets, medication, cash and devices with you. Never store them.
- Photograph the receipt and the location, including the shop front and street sign.
- Ask about liability and whether valuables are covered. Most services exclude them.
- Use a staffed service for bikes, surfboards, musical instruments or anything irregular. Standard lockers are built for suitcases.
- Label your bag with a name and phone number, but do not put your home address on the outside.
- Check the pickup deadline and what happens after closing. Some services charge an overnight fee or move bags.
- Do not leave a bag in a terminal or café as a substitute for storage. Unattended luggage is a security issue and may be removed.
Using storage for a layover
A typical plan:
- Arrive at Piraeus and walk to the storage location near the metro.
- Drop bags and keep a day bag with documents, water and a charger.
- Spend 2–4 hours in Piraeus (Archaeological Museum, Zea Marina, Mikrolimano) or take the metro to Athens.
- Return at least 60–75 minutes before your ferry, collect bags and walk or take the shuttle/taxi to the gate.
- Do not cut it fine. Bag collection plus gate distance plus boarding is a chain, and the port is bigger than it looks.
If you have a same-day flight, store bags near the airport instead, or check them early. A Piraeus locker does not help if you are already at ATH.
FAQ
Is there official luggage storage inside Piraeus ferry terminals?
There is no large PPA-run left-luggage hall in the main passenger terminals. Private lockers and staffed services operate nearby, and hotels store bags for guests. Confirm the current situation locally.
Where can I store luggage near Piraeus?
Look around Piraeus metro station and the central gate area for lockers and staffed shops. Some services also meet cruise passengers near the terminals. Check the exact address and hours before walking there with bags.
Can I store a bicycle or oversized bag?
Some staffed services accept bikes and oversized items; standard lockers usually do not. Ask before booking, and do not assume a "large locker" fits a bike box.
Can I leave bags overnight?
Many services allow it, but check the 24-hour vs calendar-day pricing and the pickup window. Some close overnight; others charge a separate overnight rate.
